KUALA LUMPUR: SPLUGG, a local digital media provider, is setting up Internet kiosks soon in five selected R&R stops along the North-South Expressway.
These access points to the Web will enable travellers on the 848km expressway to use the Internet for information, communication or recreation when they break their journeys at the stops.
The company said the kiosks would be installed at the Tapah, Ulu Bernam, Ayer Keroh, Pagoh, and Sungai Buloh R&R stops because of their high traffic volumes and popularity, compared to the other R&R sites.
Raihana Ahmad, CEO of Cyberplus Sdn Bhd which will operate the service, said SPLUGG kiosk services will combine elements of multimedia infotainment, LCD TV programmes, WiFi (wireless) facilities, as well as travel and lifestyle publications.
Currently, the company’s LCD TV digital signage and wireless Internet services are operational in all 18 R&R stops and two overhead-bridge restaurants located between Gurun in Kedah and Machap in Johor.
“The services allow everyone to stay in touch with the latest news and happenings, as well as be entertained while travelling,” Raihana said.
About 212 million travellers use the expressway each year. — ZAM KARIM
